The sindhoor was not just applied to indicate married women. As the sindhoor was made of a mixture of lime, turmeric, and mercury. As we all know lime and turmeric are the famous medicines in Ayurveda. But, what about mercury? Mercury helps to decrease blood pressure and also enhanced the sexual drive. Hence widows were not allowed to use sindhoor. Mercury also helped to bring down feelings of stress and strain.

For best results sindhoor was used all the way from the forehead right down to the pituitary glands. The seat of all thoughts and emotions.

Ayurveda stated that by piercing the ears and wearing earrings several diseases like hernia could be controlled. I know this disease as I was operated for this one when I was in 8th I guess. It also helps to regulate the menstrual cycle and restrict hysteria. The electric current within the body was also regulated by wearing earrings. It also helps to contain incessant chatter, a process that drains the body all its energy making sure that the person was calmer and maintains a certain dignity and decorum.
Problems associated with the ear, channels could also be curtailed by wearing earrings.

In Indian culture Tulsi is accorded the status of the mother. Tulsi is also called holy or sacred basil. The spiritual and medicinal properties of Tulsi the renowned all over the world. It helps to cure many things like the common cold. Containing no caffeine and other stimulants Tulsi helps to increase physical endurance. Taking Tulsi every day helps to maintain the physiological balance in the body and increases immunity. The most important fact is Tulsi increases your life span. Keeping a Tulsi plant at home keeps insects and mosquitoes away.
