Depression
According to WHO depression is the most common illness. Depression is mood disorder characterized by low mood. A feeling of sadness and general loss of interest in daily stuff. Being depressed often feels like carrying a very heavy burden, but you are not alone in this struggle. Millions of Indians suffer from some form of depression every year.
Depression is more than just a feeling sad. Everyone feels upset or demotivated from time to time, but depression is more serious issue. It also creates the heaviest burden of disability among mental and behavioral disorder. Gaining a deeper understanding of depression can help begin the journey of recovery.
CAUSE OF DEPRESSION
* The brain's physical structure.
* History of depression in the family.
* Anxiety.
* Post traumatic stress disorder.
* Guiltiness.
* Bipolar disorder.
* Stressful, traumatic events.
* Abuse or humiliation.
* Financial issue.
* Death of loved ones.
* Hormone changes.
(Pregnancy, menstrual cycles)
* Sleeping aids.
* BP medications.
* Series of failure.
TYPES OF DEPRESSION
There isn't only one type of depression. It can take many forms.
There are 9 types of depression.
1).MAJOR DEPRESSION
It is the most common type of depression. Often, people experience recurrent of this throughout their lives.
2). DYSTHYMIA
It is a persistent low mood over a long period of time, even a year or more. It could feel like you're living on autopilot.
3). SEASONAL AFFECTIVE
DISORDER
It is depression from lack of natural sunlight.
4). ATYPICAL DEPRESSION
They feel heaviness in limbs, suffer from irritability and relationship problems. They overreact and oversleep.
5). BIPOLAR DISORDER
It is also called as manic depression disorder because it involves alternating between mania and episodes of depression.
6). PSYCHOTIC DEPRESSION
Sometimes it can get so severe that hallucinations and delusions are present, the person becomes catatonic or they feel stuck in bed.
7). POSTPARTUM DEPRESSION
It occurs after giving birth. Mother's may feel disconnected from their new born baby. Or fear that they may hurt their child.
8). PREMENSTRUAL DYSPHORIC DISORDER
Shows up during second half of the menstrual cycles. It affects the individuals ability to function normally.
9). SITUATIONAL DEPRESSION
It is triggered by a life changing event. It could be anything, losing your job, death of immediate family member.
SYMPTOMS OF DEPRESSION
* Hopelessness, worthlessness or emptiness.
* Irritability, frustration or restlessness.
* Loss of interest in activities.
* Fatigue.
* Lack of energy.
* Difficulty in thinking clearly, remembering, or decision making.
* Thoughts of death or suicide.
* Self harm.
TREATMENT
* Consult doctor.
* By following a healthy diet.
* Regular sleep.
* Exercise.
* Yoga.
* Meditation.
